Exposition on the Ave Maria

This most devout and angelic salutation, which the Holy Church offers daily through the mouths of her devoted sons and daughters to the most glorious Mother of the beloved Bridegroom, Christ Jesus, was composed by the Holy Spirit: in part through the mouth of the angel Gabriel, in part through the mouth of Saint Elizabeth, mother of Saint John the Baptist, and in part through the mouth of the Holy Church.

Exposition on the Fiftieth Psalm

Alas! wretch that I am, destitute of all aid! Who have offended both heaven and earth! Whither shall I go? Whither shall I turn? To whom shall I flee for refuge? Who will have compassion on me? To heaven I dare not lift mine eyes, for I have grievously sinned against it. On earth I find no place of refuge, for I have been an offense unto it. What then shall I do? Shall I yield to despair? God forbid. God is merciful. Faithful is my Saviour. Therefore God alone is my refuge.

Contempt for the World

What shall we do? Why, O my soul, do we labor here in vain? Behold, unrefined and ignorant men, and even simple women, seize heaven, while we, with all our knowledge (alas!), are sinking into hell. Our hearts wander astray, consumed by our own thoughts; and while we claim to be wise, we have become fools. Look—peasants and women, through their actions more than their words, teach us to scorn worldly things and to follow Christ alone.

Rule of Life

Above all, love God with all your heart. Seek His honor more than the salvation of your soul. Attend diligently to purifying your mind with frequent confession. Lift your affections from earthly things. Receive communion often with devotion. Do not consider yourself better than any person, no matter how sinful, rather think of yourself as worse. Do not judge anyone's evil but always their good. Be in silence often. Do not delight in company or guests. Be as solitary as possible according to your state. Let gossip, slander, whispering, deceitful, and idle words be far from your ears, and even farther from your tongue. Pray often. Contemplate every hour. Strive to unite your whole family in true peace. Do not show pride in your words or actions. You should not be overly familiar with those who are subject to you, but rather treat them with a meek gravity. Give to all a good example of a holy life. Charitably correct the insolent. Encourage everyone to do good. Love modesty in your home, especially among the young girls. Show yourself to be a great enemy of dishonesty, harshly reprimanding any word, action, or dress that is less than honest. Do not be partial but distribute everything according to each person's worth and merit.

Ten Rules to Observe During Times of Great Tribulation

The first rule is to fervently pray to God with perseverance for the provision of good captains and pastors to console, uplift, and comfort the people of God during times of great tribulation. In such times, man easily strays from the good and succumbs to sin for the weakness and scarcity of both natural and supernatural light. This is true especially for times of great tribulation, in which these lights completely lose their vigor, or else are severely diminished, in men collectively, rendering them susceptible to poor judgement and easily deceived by self-love, the devil and his members. And therefore it is not enough for the sick to have their own light, nor to have understood and heard many good things, but it is necessary for them to have external assistance from comforters and consolers.
